Holding Patterns
Art, Care, and the Invisible Structures That Keep Society Together
Curated by Jenia Yanes
Holding Patterns responds to a moment in which the visible structures of society feel increasingly fragile, while the invisible ones become more decisive.
Care is an infrastructure: Something carried through repeated gestures and shared responsibilities that allow people to remain connected under pressure.
The residency invites artists to explore these sustaining patterns - the emotional, material and social forms through which collective life is held together.
Curatorial Support:
The residency and final exhibition is curated by Jenia Yanes, who will be supporting you directly throughout the programme.
In a monthly group meeting, you will discuss your works in progress and refine your projects.
Throughout the whole duration of the programme, you will have continuous support in a chat group for any questions along the way.
Duration & Location:
Start: The programme starts on July 1st. You can start your residency on on July 1st, August 1st, or September 1st.
Duration: You can participate one, two, or three months in the residency programme until September 30th.
Location: You will have the opportunity to work in Kunstraum Heartspace’s bright and shared community studio together with other artists at specific hours every week, and store your materials and works in progress in the studio.
Open Studio Days & Final Exhibition:
Throughout the programme, there will be one open studio day every month offering you the opportunity to share your work with your network and the public.
The residency programme will close with a final group exhibition running from October 2th to 7th.
Application & Fees:
The monthly fee is €279, and includes studio access outside event hours (Flex Option), continuous curatorial support, the organisation of one open studio day per month during your residency, and participation in the final exhibition.

(EN) In times of crisis and uncertainty, people tend to retreat into the private sphere, into the home, the nuclear family, and a state of comfort. Feelings of political exhaustion can lead to a disengagement from political life—whether through a withdrawal into middle-class family life or through an ex- cessive escapism.
Are domesticity and hedonism two different versions of the same trend—a withdrawal from poli- tics? Are they the result of overwhelm, resignation, or paralysis? If narrow-mindedness (Spießig- keit) means maintaining the status quo rather than trying to change it—isn’t every form of political passivity then narrow-minded? Or does narrow-mindedness only begin when traditional values and conservative norms are actively reproduced?
What is your definition of narrow-mindedness, and are we currently experiencing a new wave of it? What is your personal experience with this topic, which behaviors and approaches have you observed on yourself and others? And how are these questions manifested and reflected in your artistic practice?
We welcome submissions across all artistic media that explicitly or implicitly address these questions or use them as a starting point. We plan to exhibit a selection of submitted works at Heartspace in Prenzlauer Berg on/from the weekend of October 9–11, 2026.
We look forward to your contributions via email to kontakt@raumnull.de Deadline: 02.08.2026
