Rosalyn Farney

Rosalyn is an artist from San Antonio, Texas and a current candidate of the Studio Art MFA printmaking program at the University of Texas, Austin.

In addition to being an Artist in Residence, Rosalyn is pursuing a work-study opportunity at Kunstraum Heartspace this summer!

She studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, San Antonio’s Southwest School of Art, and obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was awarded the U.S. Fulbright Scholarship in the field of Animation in 2023-2024 for her project Visionary Abstraction in Germany: Stop-Motion Animation and Transformative Archive.

"I currently develop projects in stop-motion animation, printmaking, and handmade paper. My artistic process involves altering material like trashed film and video to see what occurs when they lose their original imagery and create new information; I consider debris containing images as representations of memories."

"As an Artist-in-Residence at Kunstraum Heartspace I will find and create media like sounds, videos, and photos to then use as references for drawing. When I make images I think of them as concepts for potential animation projects. I draw and paint for long periods of time and commit to a simple, repetitive form.

As I do this, I get to know how the work can change over time and the different shapes it can become. I aim to make images that seem like they can move even if they are motionless in reality. When I start a project I do not know how it will look in the end, because I hope to let art become what it wants rather than forcing it to be something predetermined."
